OUR HISTORY

Founded by Thomas Hutchinson in 1956, Tayto Group is the largest British-owned crisp and snack manufacturer, producing over five million bags a day across our five UK sites.

From our home in Tayto Castle, Tandragee in the rolling hills of County Armagh in Northern Ireland, Tayto Group has grown to be a £200 million business with a portfolio of much-loved brands including Golden Wonder, Mr Porky and REAL Handcooked Crisps as well as Tayto, Northern Ireland’s number one crisp brand.

These brands have been at the forefront of new ideas in snacks including Golden Wonder being the first to launch Ready Salted crisps 1960 as well as creating iconic crisps such as Tayto Cheese & Onion and Golden Wonder Ringos. We were among the first in our industry to move to sunflower oil for frying instead of palm oil. Innovation remains at the heart of the business as we develop the snacks of the future as well as continuing to make the snacks that we all love and have grown up with – take Midland Snacks Pork Scratchings, beloved of generations and still handmade in the Midlands.

As a family-owned business we are committed to looking after our colleagues, our communities and our customers and are looking forward to the celebrating our centenary in 2056!
